Police arrest gang involved in gold necklace theft

A gang that was stealing gold necklaces from women riding motorcycles was arrested today by officers of the Thambuttegama Police Unsolved Crimes Unit.


Police officers were suspicious about a motorcycle that was being driven without side mirrors and number plates in the Rajanganaya area, and it was revealed that it was a stolen motorcycle.

The two suspects riding the motorcycle were later arrested, and during their lengthy interrogation, the police were able to arrest three more suspects and one female suspect.

The police have taken into custody two sharp weapons, stolen number plates and three more motorcycles without side mirrors from the suspects.

Police investigations have revealed that the suspects have been using motorcycles to steal gold necklaces from women riding motorcycles on the road.

According to the information revealed by the police, three motorcycles stolen from Anuradhapura, Galgamuwa, Wahalkada, Kahatagasdigiliya and Thalawa have been seized along with five gold necklaces.

The arrested suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Thambuttegama Magistrate's Court.

Further investigations are being conducted by officers of the Thambuttegama Police Unsolved Crimes Unit.
