Four high-powered motorcycles, along with 16 motorcycles, which are said to have been assembled with illegally imported parts, have been taken into custody by the Bandaragama Police in Horana.
It is reported that the motorcyclists have been driving these motorcycles making loud noises, causing a nuisance to the people who were going to watch Vesak Siri and other vehicles on the road.
Accordingly, the police say that 16 youths have also been arrested along with the 16 motorcycles. Initial investigations have revealed that the registration plates of these four high-powered motorcycles are suspicious.
Furthermore, during the inspection conducted by the police, it was found that all the other motorcycles taken into custody had the required silencer parts removed and other parts were attached to them in a way that would scare pedestrians while driving on the road.
The police also stated that the 16 suspected youths arrested are residents of various areas including Boralesgamuwa, Kesbewa, Bandaragama, Dodangoda, Kalutara, Homagama and Ingiriya.
The police further stated that steps have been taken to release the youths on bail and that they are scheduled to be produced before the court in the coming days..
