A person has been beaten to death with sticks by a group of people.
The incident was reported last evening in the Mahawila Lane area of the Dematagoda Police Division and information was received at the Dematagoda Police Station that a person had been beaten and had fallen down with injuries.
Accordingly, police officers on night patrol went to the scene and admitted the injured person to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment, where he died.
The deceased person is a person of no permanent residence who was staying near the flyover, according to the Dematagoda Police.
The investigation revealed that the deceased had been beaten with sticks by several people.
The body has been deposited at the Colombo National Hospital morgue and the Dematagoda Police are conducting further investigations to arrest the suspects as soon as possible.
