President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued a special statement expressing his condolences to the victims of the bus accident that occurred in the Garandiella area of Ramboda this morning (11).
It states that he was deeply shocked to hear the news and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
The statement is below.
"I was deeply shocked to hear the news of the bus accident that occurred this morning (11) in the Garandiella area of Kotmale on the Nuwara Eliya - Gampola main road.
The government is very concerned about the increasing number of road accidents that occur daily in the country and is currently working hard to formulate a permanent program to prevent such accidents.
We believe that these accidents can be significantly reduced by implementing existing laws and improving the attitudes of drivers. A program has already been planned for this under the "Clean Sri Lanka" program.
I express my deepest condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in this horrific road accident that occurred this morning and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
I also request all relevant hospitals to be prepared for the treatment of the injured and all necessary arrangements for that purpose. "I would also like to remind you that instructions have been given to the security forces and health sectors to take action."
