A young woman who was alone in a house on Vihara Mawatha, Rukmalgama Road, Kottawa, has died under suspicious circumstances, according to the Kottawa Police.
The mysterious death of Pudammini Turanja, a 19-year-old unmarried woman, has been confirmed.
Police said that her body was completely burnt, and the property and roof of the house were also damaged.
The police said that the deceased girl had died in the fire while her mother and two brothers had left the house to observe Vesak.
Officers of the Kotte Sri Jayewardenepura Fire Department and residents of the area have arrived and taken steps to put out the fire, and it is said that the young woman has already died.
The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed and investigators are conducting further investigations into the incident.
